MSC course is led by a registered health professional (Registered Psychotherapist, Psychologist, Registered social worker etc.) who guides the practices and discussions
The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program is an evidence-based, 8-week course that teaches participants how to cultivate self-kindness, emotional resilience, and greater empathy. Yes, completing the 8-week MSC program is a required step for the MSC Teacher Training pathway. The MSC Certificate of Completion can be used as a foundational prerequisite, allowing participants to continue on the path toward becoming certified MSC instructors.
The MSC program consists of 8 weekly sessions, each lasting 2.5 hours. Additionally, the program features a 4-hour silent retreat designed to deepen mindfulness and self-compassion practices.
Participants are encouraged to attend all 8 sessions and fully engage in daily self-compassion exercises. These include guided meditations, journaling, and reflection practices. The goal is to develop a sustainable, personal self-compassion practice by the end of the program.
No prior experience is required. The mindful self-compassion program is designed for both beginners and those with established mindfulness or meditation practices. The program’s step-by-step approach supports participants at all experience levels.
Yes, the MSC program may be eligible for insurance coverage if facilitated by a Registered Health Professional such as a Registered Psychotherapist, Social Worker, or Psychologist. Coverage depends on your benefits provider and plan. Ontario residents are encouraged to consult their provider to confirm eligibility.
The 4-hour silent retreat provides a deeper immersion into mindfulness and self-compassion practices. It takes place online in a calm, supportive environment. To prepare:
● Set aside a quiet space free of distractions
● Wear comfortable clothing
● Have water, a journal, and any essentials to support relaxation and focus
The retreat is less intensive than in MBSR programs. Instead of structured mindfulness techniques, the retreat offers time for reflection, loving-kindness meditations, and gentle compassion practices.
Rather than focusing on stress reduction, the retreat encourages cultivating compassion, forgiveness, and self-kindness. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and practice the skills learned in the program without external distractions.
The mindful self-compassion program is delivered live via Zoom. Sessions are interactive, involving guided meditations, group discussions, and breakout activities. Participants are encouraged to engage fully to maximize the benefits of the program. A stable internet connection and a quiet space are essential for participation.
